Introduction

Tui na massage is one of the oldest forms of bodywork in the world. Originating from China, it has been practiced and developed for more than 4,000 years and is the basis on which Shiatsu and Swedish massage are founded.

Tui na massage can be performed by a licensed acupuncturist and may be incorporated in your acupuncture session as deemed necessary by the practitioner.

Description & Benefits

TUI NA MASSAGE

The techniques used in Tui na massage are designed to treat a wide range of health concerns, and are based on Traditional Chinese medical theory with a focus on removing blockages and promoting the free flow of Qi through the use of selected acupuncture points and meridians. The sessions therefore go beyond working with just the muscles, joints and bones to work with the body on a deeper energetic level to direct the flow of Qi. Rhythmic compression is applied to acupuncture points and meridians and may incorporate joint rotations, stretches and pressure.

By directing the flow of Qi and removing blockages from acupuncture meridians, tui na can treat a wide range of physiological and emotional health concerns. Tui na is especially beneficial for chronic neck, shoulder and back pain or any pain associated with muscles, joints and the skeletal system such as arthritis, sciatica and muscle spasms. Because the therapy has a focus on working with acupuncture points and meridians, it is also beneficial for insomnia, headaches, stress, constipation, digestive issues, PMS and menstrual irregularities.
